Property Market Conditions, Charlotte NC

I was reading up on the market conditions for property in Charlotte NC.  It appears that things are going well.  One agent, Daniel Calkins, reports that he sold 1215 in June, with sales prices that were 97.77% of asking price.  The market looks good, and relatively low risk for buyers who are considering purchasing  Charlotte Luxury Homes.  From the reports I am reading, it seems that the market in the area is continuing to grow, even if it is not at a pace that we'd call "skyrocketing."  Rather, we are seeing slow and steady growth.

Ethnic Minority Groups in China

It's great to see the Ethnic Culture and Art Festival being held in Kaili.  I've enjoyed seeing some of the minority groups in my travels, espcially when I was in Yunnan.  There are a lot of minority groups there, and it is always interesting to see how they live a little differently than what you might see in other parts of China.

A Challenge to Chomsky

In his article The Interpreter, John Calapinto shares the story of Dan Everrett and his life amongst the Amazonian Pirahã tribe.  It's an amazing challenge to Chomsky's notion of a universal principle of grammar underlying human language.

I have linked the entire article above.  If you have much interest in language theory, don't miss this one.

Review of iCalvyn

Calvyn and I have agreed to exchange reviews of one another's blogs via the service offered by ReviewBack.  It's a great place to get to meet other bloggers.

iCalvyn is giving away a free domain to any blogger who reviews his blog.  It's a great deal, if you ask me.  Visit his site and have a look at the excellent offer from Calvyn.  He's an IT officer, and knows what he's doing with his blog.  I think you'll find lots of good tips around there.

The God of the Gate, continued

The next bit of The God of the Gate

On the morning of the fourth day, Tang Tai Zong and his officials came to the gate.  On seeing the images, they expressed their amazement at the likeness to the two men.  It was as if the two warriors stood there in the flesh.

On the image of Qin Shu Bao was placed armour with the appearance of a tiger.  In its two hands, it grasped a long key, and across its midsection it wore a bow and arrows.

The figure of Yu Chi Gong wore lion-like armour, and in its hands it did not carry a spear or iron weapon.  His face was not like Qin Shu Bao's, fair and of a delicate sort of beauty.  Instead, his face was red and black, with eyes glaring wide as copper coins.  The fierceness of these godlike images caused real fear in the spirit of the headless River God.  He did not dare return to disturb Tang Tai Zong's sleep again.

Back Up

I have used an online data storage site for years, and I really love it. You have all of your info right at hand, wherever you go, if you use a good Online Storage provider. iBackup is one of the good guys. They do a really nice job of the online backup system. I like how it appears as a hard disk on your desktop, allowing you to even do drag and drop backup, if that is what you want to do. In this way, it is very non-intimidating because it is something I am used to doing every day -- it looks just like the same old thing I always do. For some of the other backup solutions I've seen, you feel you have to jump through hoops just to hang onto your data. I like that iBackup doesn't feel that way at all. If you are looking for a good storage solution, check them out. If you would like to write sponsored posts like this one, click this tab

English Language Myths

I was recently browsing through Adam Brown's English Language Myths.  I wasn't impressed, for reasons I've discussed at my recommended reading blog.

I was disappointed to think that this book is still sitting on the library shelf, and that it will probably attract some attention from Singaporeans.  Why I think this is regrettable is that I don't think it will boost the confidence of a people that is already largely self-conscious about language.  I think there is no reason for Singaporeans to feel inferior at all about their abilities with language. Indeed, I think they are phenomenally talented.  That doesn't change the fact that there seems to be a nation-wide inferiority complex with regards to language ability here.
